New Patient Information

IF THE CHILD IS HAVING A COLD, FLU OR RECENT EAR INFECTION PLEASE INFORM US. THE PROCEDURE WILL THEN HAVE TO BE RESCHEDULED

• DPH Elixir to be given the night before and the morning of appointment
• Only clear FLUID ON THE MORNING OF APPOINTMENT. For example, A CUP OF TEA OR MINT NO HEAVY BREAKFAST. VOMITING IS VERY LIKELY TO OCCURS IF STOMACH IS FULL
• Patient will be give a prescription to be filled on the morning of appointment
  The medication will be placed in a tablespoon of juice for the child. All must be consumed.
• The child will sit in the waiting room for 15-20 minutes until drowsy after which the child will be escorted in by parent to the surgery where Nitrous gas will be administered.
• The child will become drowsy but still aware of his/her surrounding but very relaxed. This is a mild sedation procedure.
• The child will remain drowsy after the procedure and must be closely monitored by parent after leaving the office for at least 3-4 hours.
• Please try to be positive, avoid instilling fear in the patient and say as little as possible to the child to ensure that sedation is successful. If the child is very anxious, or hyper-active and afraid, the sedation will not be successful.
• So far we have had a 90% success rate once the instructions are followed.
